Calamus nagabettai
Assessment of Genetic Diversity and Identification of Gender Specific Markers of Important North-East and South Indian Rattan palms using SSR Analysis
  • To study the nature and extent of diversity of Calamus populations with respect to (C. tenuis, C. flagellum, C. travancoricus and C. thwaitesii) in Northeast and South India within natural ecosystems using microsatellite markers
  • To identify species specific diagnostic marker for C. tenuis (Roxb.), C. flagellum (Griff.), C. travancoricus and C. thwaitesii (Becc.)
  • To identify diagnostic marker for gender differentiation in C. tenuis (Roxb.), C. flagellum, C. travancoricus and C. thwaitesii (Becc.)

The project is being funded by DBT, Govt of India.

Genetic studies on selected rattan palms (Calamus sp.) using microsatellite markers

Objectives
  • Collect natural populations of the selected rattan palms, viz. C. brandisii, C. gamblei, C. nagabettai, C. thwaitesii, C. travancoricus and C. hookerianus
  • Analyze genetic diversity, population structure and differentiation using SSR markers.

The project is being funded by Kerala Biotechnology Commission.
